Deloitte celebrates triple success at Accountancy Age Awards

Deloitte was awarded the Global Firm of the Year award for the second consecutive year. The company also received the Employer of the Year award, also for the second consecutive year, and the Young Accountant of the Year with joint winner Sarah Restall.

Explaining why they chose Deloitte as Global Firm of the Year, the judges said: “Deloitte won it by a mile in terms of the presentation, colour and the way they develop staff – quite simply it was a very strong entry against all the criteria.” Accountancy Age reported: “The breadth of the submission from this year’s winner Deloitte combined with a very strong commitment to client satisfaction and business innovation and all supported by compelling testimonials¬ shone through to make it stand above stiff competition.”

On crowning Deloitte as Employer of the Year for the second consecutive year, Accountancy Age stated: “After the turmoil of the past year, winning the 2009 Employer of the Year gong may have never been so important and Deloitte has picked up the prize. Deloitte saw profits fall but still managed to look after its staff. In terms of continuing personal development, the firm is said to be heavily in favour of empowering people and giving them every opportunity to advance by encouraging staff to and develop ideas and initiatives.”

John Connolly, UK senior partner and chief executive comments: “To win the prestigious accolades of Global Firm of the Year and Employer of the Year two years running is an outstanding achievement. The Employer award in particular is a reflection on our total commitment to our main asset - our people. Our reputation in the marketplace is thanks to the calibre and commitment of our people, and this is a very gratifying confirmation that we are fulfilling their expectations.”

Sarah Restall, an audit assistant manager in Deloitte’s St Albans office was named joint winner of the Young Accountant of the Year title. She impressed the judges for being more than just a high-flying accountant. The judges said: “She stands out for being an outstanding character and for seeing another dimension to being in business. She has displayed great motivation and a real appetite to succeed.”
