The CMMi appraisal is a certification granted by the Software Engineering Institute (SEI), a U.S. Department of Defense federally funded research and development center operated by Carnegie Mellon University. The CMMi model is a process improvement approach that provides organizations with the essential elements of effective processes and measures their maturity on a scale of 1 to 5. The maximum rating of 5 implies that the organization is proactive and totally process oriented, defining quantitative improvement objectives and subjecting processes to statistical control as well as implementing continuous improvement actions. This translates into a significant improvement in productivity and quality as well as a reduction in the total cost of projects.
Eric Morgan, Managing Director of Capgemini Spain, had this to say about the certification: "This is a recognition of our emphasis on excellence, a philosophy applied throughout Capgemini Spain, and especially in Asturias. It also represents strong support of the work performed by the software development professionals at the factory, who will now assume a commitment to comply with the CMMi methodology in respecting process quality. There can be no doubt that this is an additional guarantee for our customers".
