Deloitte Australia recharges its Energy & Resources Group

PERTH -- Professional services firm Deloitte announces major changes to its energy and resources leadership team and the addition of key international talent to better support the opportunities available to its clients in the current market.

Deloitte Australia’s Energy & Resources Leader, Keith Jones, said the changes would see Perth Partner Mike Lynn move immediately into the role of National Oil and Gas Leader, replacing Stephen Reid as he takes the helm of Deloitte Australia’s Mining Group.

“Stephen has enjoyed great success with the National Oil and Gas Group more than doubling its growth during his time as leader and he leaves it in a strong position as he hands over the reins. However, Stephen also has deep industry knowledge and experience of the mining sector that makes him the logical choice to lead that team at a time when many clients are experiencing significant external pressures on their business.”

Mr Jones said Deloitte Australia was positioning itself to strengthen and shape the energy and resources sectors in Australia over the next decade, and was confident the leadership changes would deliver the innovations and insights needed to assist industry in meeting the challenges of a volatile market.

“Mike Lynn will take over the Oil and Gas Group at a critical time for the industry, just as it faces both unprecedented growth and increased regulatory oversight. Having been the lead partner for oil and gas in our national consulting practice since 2008, Mike’s experience working closely with a number of major upstream operators leaves him well placed to lead the national team.”

“Mike has also been heavily involved in our Major Capital Projects team and brings a depth of experience in strategy and operations that is crucial to realisation of the multi-billion dollar investment pipeline that will underpin the Australian oil and gas industry over the next decade.”

Mr Jones said the national oil and gas team would be further bolstered by the addition of a senior partner, Geoffrey Cann, in the Brisbane office.

“Geoff is the former Deloitte Canada national consulting leader for Canada’s Oil and Gas Group and we expect his deep industry expertise will take our offering to a new level in the Queensland market,” Mr Jones said. “With the east coast gas market confronting the challenge of gearing up to become an LNG exporter while also continuing to meet its domestic supply needs, having an operator of Geoff’s skill and international experience on board is going to be of enormous value to our many clients in that region. ”
