Office of Public Prosecutions in the Netherlands outsources IT to Atos Origin
The Office of Public Prosecutions (OPP) in the Netherlands has outsourced the management of its IT infrastructure to Atos Origin, an international IT services company. The five-year contract marks the first phase of the OPP's outsourcing strategy and includes the management of around 6,500 work stations (fixed and mobile), office automation, VOIP and hosting services.
The OPP is responsible for the criminal enforcement of the legal system. It is the only Dutch authority which can bring suspects before the criminal courts and it ensures that criminal acts are investigated and prosecuted. The OPP is organised nationally with branches across the Netherlands. A European invitation to tender preceded the award of this contract. During this process the OPP was supported by the advisory company Quint Wellington Redwood. Atos Origin emerged as the best candidate in the areas of quality, strategy and price.
“This contract puts the OPP in the position of being able to make substantial savings in IT management and to drastically improve the performance of its IT systems,” said Henk van Brummen, CIO of the Office of Public Prosecutions.”With this new contract the OPP has a future-proof infrastructure which complies with very high standards in security, availability, innovation and flexibility. In Atos Origin, we have found an IT service provider that can deliver these improvements without disruption to our service.”
"We are proud of this important contract which enables us to further strengthen our position in the Government sector, which is a significant growth market in the Netherlands. In view of the OPP's core activity and the sensitivity of its business, the decision to outsource its infrastructure is certainly progressive,” emphasises Rob Pols, CEO of Atos Origin in the Netherlands. “Our efforts will be concentrated on managing and improving the OPP's infrastructure while ensuring that our IT service contributes to a reduction in operating costs.”
The transition is in full progress. During the coming months Atos Origin will take over management of the IT infrastructure from the current supplier. It will implement its Adpative Workplace services – which combine legacy, utility based and cloud infrastructure so that any application can be used anywhere, and on any device – as well as Atos in a Box, Oracle Exadata, Storage on Demand, Cloud Infrastructure Service and Application Technical Management, which utilise virtualisation and encryption, amongst other things.
