West Sussex chooses Capgemini for service transformation programme
Top-performing Council aims to turn ‘good’ into ‘great’ to deliver better services to customers.

West Sussex County Council has selected Capgemini UK plc as its programme partner for the next phase of its fundamental service review programme, an ambitious transformation which aims to make the Council the best public sector organisation in the UK.

Capgemini UK plc has been awarded a framework contract covering all three components of the programme (transformational change, operational service improvement and IT) against competitive proposals from several other bidders.

The Capgemini team of change management, business process and IT specialists will work with the Council’s in-house business change team and with staff across Council directorates to continue and accelerate the ongoing transformation programme which has already delivered significant improvements in cost efficiency. Earlier this year the Council approved the lowest percentage increase in its council tax since the system began, together with a spending package to maintain and improve front line services – a combination made possible by the more than £50 million of efficiency savings achieved to date.

Mark Hammond, Chief Executive of West Sussex County Council, said: “Although external assessments say we are a top performing council and improving strongly, we are determined to turn ‘good’ into ‘great’ because that is what the residents of West Sussex need and deserve. The next phase of the transformation programme will cover the complete range of Council services with the aim of achieving genuine customer-led services through modern and efficient delivery and so reducing costs. The Capgemini team will be involved in all service areas under the leadership of Diane Ashby, the Council’s Director of Business Change.
